This small community project has strong grass roots support. Our committee consists of approximately twenty members who meet monthly or as needed, to proceed with our project. Our goal is to build a park on the site of our former high school which was consolidated into Hazleton Area High School in 1966.

We have completed Phase I that includes a beautiful paved walk-way with landscaping that leads to three monuments- 1 has the Alma Mater - 2nd has an etching of our school building, and the third has the names of the four students who never graduated, but joined the service and were killed in action. This monument also has the original corner stone embedded at the base. A huge flag pole "over sees" the site day and night as spot lights are automatically turned on at dusk.

The township has granted the Black Creek Alumni a 99 year lease for this plot of ground - 100 feet wide with a depth of 150 feet. We plan on using more of this space by building a wall behind the already installed monuments. Our memorial wall will be inscribed with all the graduates' names. Eventually, park benches, fountains, etc along with more pathways and landscaping will be added.

Since the completion of Phase I, the community has utilized the site for their annual Christmas Tree Lighting, Christmas Caroling, Santa Visit, Memorial Day Ceremonies, Recreation Department Bake Sales and Yard Sales to fund swimming pool expenses.

Our estimated project for Phase II is $60,000. We have successfully reached the half way point and with your help and support, we can reach the finish line in the very near future.

Your monetary support as well as any suggestions, will be greatly accepted. For further information, please contact Betty Hodgson at 570-455-3256.
